Process

While fostering, we provide you with the essentials — a crate, vet care (as needed), monthly heartworm and flea/tick preventative, martingale collar with RDR ID tag, 6-foot leash, and other supplies. You provide your foster dog with food and water, exercise, positive reinforcement, and plenty of love.

1. Submit an Online Foster Application

We appreciate you wanting to foster a dog in your home. If you have any questions or concerns regarding the foster application, please email us at contact@ruraldogrescue.com.

2. Phone Interview

You will receive an email from one of our application processors to set up a phone interview. These typically take between 15-30 minutes and are a chance for us to learn more about what you are looking for as a foster.

If applicable, our volunteer will also conduct a landlord reference (if you rent), a vet reference check (if you have owned a pet in the last five years), and a background check.

3. Home Visit

After the phone interview, you will conduct a virtual home visit with one of our volunteers.

This allows us to make sure your home is a safe place for our dogs to live, as well as the opportunity to figure out which of our dogs will fit will in your home. All members of the family should be present during the virtual home visit.

4. You're Approved!

After the phone interview and home visit are complete, you will be approved to foster one of our dogs.

From there, the foster coordinator will work with you to place a dog in your home and you will be added to the foster email list for future needs. We send a weekly email listing dogs that are looking for fosters, and the dates in which they need care.

Once an adoption application is underway, we are able to discuss further details regarding our available dogs.
Rural Dog Rescue is a 100% volunteer, non-profit organization. We will make every effort to schedule your home visit in a timely manner. Please be patient with us…the dogs need our time too.
All dogs are spayed/neutered, microchipped and up-to-date on all shots prior to adoption
Our adoption fee is $450 and helps offset some of the costs we incur when rescuing our dogs.
