My foster guardian says: “My favorite thing about Tovah (Karen) is how sweet and gentle she is!”
Likes: walks, napping, eating cheese, looking at herself in the mirror
I know what you’re thinking. Karen? Really?! Yes, technically, that was once my name at the shelter, but my foster (and everybody else!) calls me Tovah! Tovah means ‘good’ and that’s the best word to describe me! I am the goodest girl to ever good! My foster says that she’s never met a more well-behaved, laid-back pup!
I had a rough start to life, and that’s left me a little unsure about trusting people. I’m starting to learn that people give pets and snuggles, and treats, and that it’s okay to be myself around them! I’m coming out of my shell more and more everyday! When I first moved to D.C., I was pretty nervous, but now I wag my tail lots, and am even starting to play with toys! I’m especially at ease when I’m hanging out with one of my doggy friends. I love to play and cuddle and run and chase with all my puppy BFFs! I’d love to have another dog friend in my future home, though I’m okay being an only child too!
My foster would like to say that for as much as I might look ‘perpetually worried’ and ‘a bit depressed’, it’s not true! It’s just my big hound dog eyes! I’m actually a happy girl overall, and I’m amazingly confident and calm, considering everything I’ve been through. Even though I haven’t lived in the city long, I’ve already mostly adjusted to the noise and bustle. As long as I’m walking right next to my foster, I trust that I’ll be safe! I’ve also adapted to living in an apartment really easily. Automatic doors and elevators don’t phase me!
Now, rumors have been flying that I ‘don’t know any commands’ and ‘may not be the brightest bulb on the tree’. Ahem. I’m street smart, not book smart! I may not know any flashy tricks, but I’m super well trained! I pick up on routines really quickly, and I’m also great with directions! I know exactly how to get back to our house when we’re out on a walk, and I know what door to stop at when we visit friends in their apartment. I stop at streetlights, I’m amazing in my crate, I never bark inside the house, and I don’t jump, or counter surf, or chew. I also get along with every other dog I’ve met!
In addition to being so super easy to take care of, I also have a couple of pretty funny quirks. One of them is that I love to look in the mirror! I will spend hours gazing at my reflection, and pondering my beauty and existence. When I’m not preening, I enjoy walks of any distance, and I’ll tag along on car rides and hiking adventures too! I’m also a great patio buddy. I love sitting under the table while my foster is getting food or drinks with friends. Whenever I lay down, I make sure to politely cross my paws. Could I be cuter??
I would be the perfect puppy for someone who works in an office, because I’m totally content to spend 9-10 hours at a time sleeping in my crate. It’s cozy and secure in there, and I have my blankets and my toys and my bully sticks, so what more could I want? I’m as quiet as a mouse overnight in my crate too! If you want a dog who will let you sleep in, I’m your girl! I’ll also add that if you’re looking for a champion couch cuddler, I can check that box too!
See, I’m not so much of Karen, right? If I do say so myself, I’d be a catch for any family! If you’re looking for the most gentle, loyal, loving pup, I’m your girl! I’m really looking forward to finding my forever family, so apply to adopt me today!
