Hey there, I’m Cardinal! I’m a 2-year-old, 45-pound mixed breed with a heart as big as my curiosity. I’m all caught up on vaccinations and dewormed, and while I’m heartworm positive, I’m on my way to getting all the care I need.
I may come across as shy, and this shelter environment makes me a bit nervous, but don’t let that fool you! Once I’m outside, my true colors come through, and you’ll see that I’m full of life and spirit. I’m also an independent guy with a clever, curious nature, and I just love hanging out with other dogs—being around them really brings out my playful side.
It might take me a little time to feel completely safe and loved, but when I do, I’ll be the most loyal friend you could ask for. I’m ready to make every day with you an adventure, exploring the world together as a family. So, if you’re looking for a clever and vibrant buddy who’ll bring joy to your days, I’d love to meet you!
The nice folks at RDR will update my profile when they learn more about me. I cannot wait to find a forever home where I can share all the love I've got to give.
Cardinal tested positive for heartworm and will need to undergo treatment once they arrive in the DMV, either while in foster or once they are with their adopter. RDR will cover the cost of the heartworm treatment through our vet partner. If the adopter would prefer to complete treatment at their vet, RDR will reimburse up to the treatment cost through our vet partner. During treatment, they need restricted exercise to short leashed walks only, and they need a fairly quiet home where they aren’t going to be overstimulated too much. Once the treatment is complete and they get the all clear from the vet, they will be able to live a totally normal/unrestricted life like any other dog. Dogs should be retested 9-12 months after treatment is completed and every year afterwards as part of their annual exam.
