Foster Hope.
Provide Shelter and Love
Opening your home to a foster pup helps us rescue more dogs every day. Rural Dog Rescue foster parents play an important role in ensuring that the dogs saved by our rescue will find their forever home.
Foster parents provide temporary care for animals that are available for adoption. Foster math is easy — the more fosters we have willing to open their homes and their hearts, the more dogs we are able to save.
You can become an approved Rural Dog Rescue foster by completing our Foster Application Form. When your application is reviewed and approved, you’ll be asked to complete a Foster Contract that fully explains our foster program. As our rescues are brought to the D.C. area, our program coordinators will reach out to let our fosters know there are new dogs available.
Fosters are asked to bring or drop off their dogs for our weekly adoption events, Saturdays from 12 – 3 p.m. at Howl to the Chief.
Fosters save lives. To become a foster, please complete the foster application form online.

Weekend Foster Program
Have you always wanted to foster a dog in need but your work schedule is too hectic or you just aren’t sure fostering is for you? Have you thought about owning a dog but aren’t ready to commit? Do you just need a dog fix and some 4 legged companionship? Rural Dog Rescue has the answer for you! Introducing our new Weekend Foster Program!
Here’s how it works: This program is for our dogs that are in boarding kennels or daycare facilities and need a few days of some R&R in the comforts of a real home! Many times our boarding facilities are full on the weekends and holidays and we want to be good rescue partners and move some of our dogs to private homes during peak times! The dogs enjoy the break too – after all you don’t get much rest everyone running around and playing 24/7! So its pretty simple really – at the beginning of the weekend you would pick up one of our lovely dogs – have an awesome good time all weekend/holiday and then drop them off again at the end of the weekend! All food, collar, leash and crates are provided! (some transport help too)
